Program: Hairstylist / Barber Apprenticeship Program

1.0 Purpose
This document outlines the admissions criteria and academic requirements for prospective students entering the Hairstylist/Barber program at Hair Inc. Academy. The policy ensures compliance with Albertaβs Apprenticeship and Industry Training (AIT) standards and supports the Academyβs commitment to maintaining a fair, accessible, and academically appropriate admissions process.
2.0 Scope
This policy applies to all individuals applying to the Hairstylist/Barber Apprenticeship Program offered by Hair Inc. Academy at the Edmonton, Alberta campus. It encompasses entry-level academic requirements, alternate qualification pathways, and the process for program enrollment.
3.0 Admission Requirements
To be eligible for enrollment in the Hairstylist/Barber Apprenticeship Program, applicants must meet at least one of the following academic criteria:
3.1 Standard Academic Requirements
Completion of English Language Arts 10-2 or higher, and
Completion of Mathematics 10-3 or higher.
3.2 Equivalent Credentials
A valid General Educational Development (GED) certificate, or
A recognized Canadian Adult Education Credential (CAEC).
3.3 Alternate Pathway
Successful completion of the Hair Inc. Academy Entrance Examination, administered by the Academy under approved protocols.
4.0 Alignment with AIT Apprenticeship Path
This program is designed in accordance with the Alberta Industry and Trades (AIT) Apprenticeship Pathway for the Hairstylist and Barber designation. Upon acceptance, students will be registered as apprentices and will begin accumulating hours toward certification.
The program includes:
Structured technical training (in-class theory),
Practical training in a real-world salon environment,
Supervised apprenticeship hours,
Preparation for the Red Seal endorsement (optional, upon completion).
5.0 Additional Requirements
Applicants must be at least 16 years of age at the time of admission.
Applicants under 18 years of age require parental or guardian consent.
All applicants must provide proof of academic achievement (transcripts or certificates) or complete the entrance exam prior to acceptance.

How to Apply to Hair Inc. Academy
Weβre excited that youβre considering joining Hair Inc. Academy! To begin your application, please submit the following:
1. High School Transcript
Provide a copy of your high school transcript.
If you attended high school outside of Canada, click here for specific requirements.
2. Application Fee
A $150 non-refundable application processing fee is required. You can pay using one of the following secure methods:

3. Mature Students
If you do not have a high school diploma, you may apply as a Mature Student by completing a General Equivalency Diploma (GED).
4. Technology Requirements
To access our online learning system, students must have a laptop capable of supporting video content and eBooks. Please ensure your device meets the necessary specifications before classes begin.
5. Financial Aid
Hair Inc. Academy students are eligible to apply for Alberta Student Aid. The application process is completed securely online through the Government of Alberta. Whether you are a new or returning student, you can create an account and access all application details at:
